Water System Improvement Project (2014 LGAA)
Village of Franklin
County: Delaware County
Population: Less than 5,000
Village Hall: (607) 829-6776
The Village of Franklin's water system was approximately 150 years old, causing efficiency and water quality to be low. Numerous breaks, plugged lines, and other failures were regularly occurring, costing several thousand dollars in time and repairs. It was becoming extremely difficult to keep the system in working order.
The work consisted of installing 10,400 linear feet of new water main in various sizes from 4" to 10", 143 water services, 28 fire hydrants; relocating the well controls to the pump house, replacing existing well #1 pump and motor, installing emergency backup generator in a secure enclosure, installing new piping and flow meter in pump house; installing a new water line, electric service, and running lights at the reservoir; milling 15,200 sq. yds. of pavement and installing 2,700 tons of asphalt; and replacing 11,380 sq. ft. of concrete sidewalk.
This updated water system will last for years to come, providing quality water and service for all residents and businesses. New concrete streets, curbs, and many sidewalks will not only enhance the appearance of the Village, but provide excellent walking conditions for all. The newly-installed generator will ensure that residents have water service regardless of storms or other unforeseen interruptions.
Funding for this project was made possible through a loan/grant program with USDA Rural Development and NYS EFC (DWSRF grant/loan).
